New cars drifting to the market in 2022

2022 is an interesting year in the automotive market. The EV revolution is here and in full force, most major brands are releasing either hybrid or fully electric models. However, there still are several fuel-powered models to look forward to. So in this list, we will cover some of our favorite models drifiting into the market in 2022.

2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid SEL

Fuel Economy

The new-for-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient version of the company’s popular SUV/crossover:

  • Hybrid Drivetrain

The new Santa Fe comes with a modern inside, very similar to other EV and Hybrid options:

  • 5 possible colors, including a blue shade

Engine

The most interesting aspect of this vehicle is the brand new hybrid engine (the first time we will see one in the popular Santa Fe model), and Hyundai does not disappoint:

  • 13.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack
  • 260 combined horsepower

  • 258 lb-ft combined torque

Price

The Santa Fe Hybrid comes in two different trims, the SEL and the limited. Both the standard and premium versions are more expensive than comparable Hybrids in the market:

  • SEL trim starts at $39,350

Hyundai has yet to confirm the official release date, but analysts expect it to be available by:

2022 Ferrari 296 GTB

  • Hybrid
  • Combined fuel consumption 36.75 MPG

The inside of the new 296 GTB is a combination of 2022 minimalist design and the usual Ferrari luxury:

  • Digital dashboard for driver and passenger
  • Most buttons have been updated to touch-capacitive surfaces
  • Push-button shifter inspired by the gated old manual Ferrari gearboxes in the center console

Exterior

The design of the Ferrari 296 GTB is probably our favorite on the entire list. Slick, sexy, and futuristic this model features an exciting new direction for the Italian brand:

  • Kamm tail
  • Jewel headlights
  • Central exhaust exit

Engine

If the design wasn't enough, Ferrari's hybrid engine has a reportedly insane performance:

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

Fuel Economy

The Ford F-150 has been America's best selling car for a few years now, so the Lightning model is an attempt from Ford to get ahead in the EV market, and with two transverse-mounted fixed-magnet AC electric motors, Ford could be winning the race:

  • Fully electric
  • 240-volt lithium-ion battery
  • Fast charging 15 to 80 percent in less than 45 minutes

Interior & Tech

One of the biggest upgrades in the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is the interior. Truly a shocking upgrade:

  • Interior work surface with a retractable shift lever
  • Max Recline front seats on more expensive trims
  • Two 120-volt outlets in the cabin
  • Four 120-volt outlets and two USB ports in the front trunk
  • 12-inch touchscreen
  • Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices

Exterior

Pretty much the old F-150 design with a little of an EV spark. Ford needs to ensure the towing capabilities remain on-par or better than fuel-powered models:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels (Pro Trim)
  • LED strip across the hood (XLT Trim only)
  • Black-finished fixed running boards (XLT Trim only)
  • Tailgate work surface is optional in the lower two trims, standard in the top two
  • 14 cubic feet front trunk

Engine

For those apprehensive about buying an EV pickup truck, does the battery work for towing? Well kinda... the pull is impressive, but you won't get as much power compared to the fuel version:

  • Two 3-phase fixed-magnet AC electric motors (standard-range battery)
  • 426 horsepower
  • 775 lb-ft of torque
  • 10,000 pounds Max Trailer Tow Package (extended-range battery)
  • 7,700 pounds Max Trailer Tow Package (standard-range battery)

Price

The price tag for the F-150 Lightning varies significantly depending on the trim:

  • Pro Trim (standard-range battery): $39,974
  • XTL Trim: $52,974
  • Platinum trim: $90,474

Release Date

The Ford F-150 Lightning is fast approaching, so you won't have to wait long for this beast:

  • May 2022

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Fuel Economy

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer was the first American full-size luxury SUV; released back in 1984. Now, 38 years later the newest model is launching with a plethora of impressive features:

  • Gasoline only
  • Combined: 15 MPG
  • City: 13 MPG
  • Highway: 18 MPG

Interior & Tech

One of our favorite features of the Grand Wagoneer is the luxurious interior comfort:

  • 2-2-3 leather seating
  • Front seats with massage, memory, and 4-way powered headrests
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument display
  • 12.1-inch horizontal infotainment display
  • 10.25-inch screen below that controls the air conditioning and seat heat
  • Locking touchpad-controlled safe underneath the front armrest

Exterior

Honestly, the exterior design of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer is a little underwhelming. It doesn't offer much innovation from previous models, but if you already loved the Wagoneer look you should be pleased:

  • Traditional Jeep 7-slot grille
  • Large side glass, tinted and U-shaped
  • 22-inch wheels
  • Selec-Terrain system offers the following modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.

Engine

Unlike most of the vehicles on the list, the new Wagoneer has no PHEV option, it is fuel only. However, that fuel engine has a lot of power:

  • 6.4-liter V8
  • 471 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm
  • 455 lb-ft of torque @ 5,500 rpm
  • EPA city/highway fuel economy:  13/18 mpg (4WD)

Price

The Wagoneer is no cheap ride, and the higher the model the steeper the price:

  • Series I: $86,995
  • Series II: $93,995
  • Series III: $103,995

Release Date

Finishing off our list, when will the 2022 Grand Wagoneer be released?:

  • Summer 2022
